Whereto Land
A FREE RELOCATION GUIDE
Choose the town before you choose the house.

The conversation I have with families in their first weeks in Fairfield County, written down.
Schools, commute, cost and community, in the order they actually matter.
Fairfield County, Connecticut

WHO WROTE THIS
I made this move myself, in 2014.
More than a decade in finance in São Paulo, at Santander, Citibank and JP Morgan. Then we started over in Old Greenwich. My daughters did not speak English. For months I questioned whether we had made the right decision.
Since 2015 I have helped other families through that transition, first as a relocation consultant and, since 2019, as a Real Estate Advisor.
There is a huge difference between having an address and feeling at home.
This guide is about the first decisions that separate the two.

WHAT IS INSIDE
Most families start with the house. That is why so many move twice.

The four filters, in order
Schools, commute, budget and fit. The last one decides whether you stay.

Eight towns, told honestly
Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Westport, Stamford, Fairfield, Wilton and Weston. Price, commute, how schools are assigned, the trade-off, and who each town is for.

The numbers nobody calculates
What a longer commute costs in weeks per year. What the same $2M house costs in yearly tax, and why Greenwich surprises people.

Your move, month by month
A timeline that starts nine months out, and a checklist for your first thirty days, in the order that matters.

The difference between a fifty-minute town and a seventy-minute town is not twenty minutes. It is three weeks of your year.

Yes. Leave your name and email, and it arrives right away.
It is the best time. The guide was written for families still choosing, so that when we talk we start at the fourth question, not the first.
More than ever. Check the school assignment, the real commute and the yearly cost of that address before you make an offer.
No. New York, another state or another country. International families get extra notes on credit history and school records.
Updated September 2026, with Q2 2026 market data. Tax rates change yearly, so always confirm the figure on the specific property.

Still not sure which town?
Good. That is the right place to start. Read it, answer the four questions on page 7, and send them to me. I will tell you honestly which two towns to look at, and which one to stop considering.
